Concrete is one of the most common building materials in the world, used in homes, commercial buildings, outdoor areas and even roads.
Almost all residential homes utilise concrete in some form, and whether you’re renovating or building new, engaging the services of a professional will ensure that your concreting project looks as good as possible while fulfilling its function.
What type of concrete you choose depends on what you will be using it for.
For example coloured, stamped or patterned concrete can be used for driveways or patios while plain concrete can be used for walls, footings or foundations. Polished concrete looks great indoors.
Stencil Concrete
Stencil concrete is a system of adding colour, pattern and texture to a
plain concrete slab at the time of pouring. The finished job has the
attractive look of brick or stone with a contrasting grout line.
The Process:
The pattern you have chosen is stretched out over the slab and then rolled onto the wet surface of the concrete. Once care has been taken to orient the pattern correctly, and all excess paper is trimmed from edges, the application of the colour hardener is started.
The colour hardener comes in bags pre-tinted according to popular choice. We simply apply two coats of this colour and it is trowelled and finished in the most practical and aesthetically pleasing way.
After sufficient time has elapsed, allowing for surface hardness to develop, the stencil is lifted from the surface, resulting in a pattern being left in the coloured surface. This is then sealed with concrete sealer to maintain the attractive finish on your job.
Stamped Concrete
Stamped concrete is a system of adding colour, pattern and texture to a
plain concrete slab at the time of pouring. With stamped concrete, you
can create the realistic effect of slate, stone or even wood.
The Process:
Much the same is done as in stenciled concrete, i.e. concrete is placed and screeded in exactly the same way, except a more expensive mix of concrete is used.
Once two coats of colour hardener are applied to the slab, we are then ready to start stamping the pattern into the concrete.
If a second colour is desired we use a Release Agent. This enables a second colour to be 'thrown' which can create a stunning contrast effect (eg Camel colour hardener and Coffee Brown release agent). Hence whenever you see a stamped concrete job, you will note that there are almost always at least two colours in the final result.
Once the concrete has had the pattern stamped onto it, the job can then be sealed to bring out both colours and add durability.
Colour Thru
Colour Thru allows you to blend your surrounds perfectly. Colour Thru
colour for concrete is a high quality pigment blend that is mixed into
concrete prior to pouring. This gives a depth of colour throughout the
entire laid slab allowing for long term colour performance, even if surface
scuffing or chipping occurs.
