Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need Council Approval?

This answer will vary from council to council and state to state. Each region has specific rules of what needs to have approval and what does not.

In most cases if you plan to excavate or fill your land, or construct retaining walls council approval may be required.  We recommend customers contact their local council to discuss your proposal, and confirm the necessary requirements.

Why do I need council approval?

Council approval is needed for structural issues and also legal requirements with vehicle crossings and gutter work.

Obtaining council approval for your job, will ensure compliance with Australian Building Codes.

Why do costs vary from Contractor to Contractor?

CC Constructions is fully insured, and complies with all relevant Australian Standards and legal requirements.

All quotes are obligation free and we will give you friendly valuable advice that will save you money and ensure a fantastic result.

Other Contractors may give you a different price but do they have all the necessary equipment, qualifications, licences and experience? And will they give you the fantastic result you deserve?

Another issue that may vary from contractor to contractor is the work being performed. Some contractors will cut corners and not provide you with correct materials or the correct way the job should be performed eg: not using road base or not taking the right amount of dirt away so correct levels can be achieved - This will result in an inferior job and problems will occur in the future.

We know exactly what is necessary on every job to achieve a high standard. We will never cut corners and we will always give you a professional and quality project.

We work to a standard not a price.

Expansion & Shrinkage

In order to prevent unsightly cracking in decorative concrete slabs, whether they be paths, driveways, patios, etc. joints are the way to go.

A very effective method of providing a joint in concrete is the sawcut method. This involves pouring the job as normal, marking out cuts with chalk, and returning later to sawcut. This provides an induced weakness, which in effect tells the slab where to crack before it decides to find its own unsightly path.

It is important to note that as these cuts are only 20-30mm deep, they do not go through the reinforcement ensuring that lifting of panels will not happen.

Fading / Concrete Wear

Once a decorative concrete floor is finished the best way to keep it looking great it is to seal and protect its surface.

Your new or resurfaced decorative concrete is treated with an acrylic sealer to help produce an attractive surface that is easier to clean and maintain than unsealed concrete. The sealer works by blocking the pores of the concrete, providing a protective layer that helps stop dirt becoming ingrained and helps achieve a more consistent look.

Acrylic sealers wear over time, however if your driveway has been well maintained you will maximise the lifetime and look of your job by resealling every 18-24 months.

How long until I can use my new driveway?

Concrete needs at least seven days from time of pouring to gain enough strength in order to support a car without stressing it out and weakening it's long term serviceability.

Will I need drainage?

Drainage is needed to prevent water going into your home and to stop water from illegally going into your neighbouring properties. It will also prevent soil erosion causing subsidence and undermining.

Will there be extras?

When we quote your project, we can only quote on what we can visualise at the time of the quote. There can be at times unforseen issues that may occur once the job starts. These issues will be brought to your attention immediately and discussed.
